I would call this behaviour bullying…… can you not all start toe-ing the line?

I had no idea that what started out as a quick email promoting a local event here at BMB would become a case study for a blog post, but I sometimes take it for granted that working for a creative agency – where the employees don’t take themselves too seriously – is a perk worth blogging about in itself.

There aren’t many industries where people are openly allowed to all get stuck in to making good-natured email jibes at an employee who’s suffered a misfortune. There is a fine line between malice and a good-natured joke – but the email string beneath this post is testament to the benefits of the latter within an organisation.

Something which is often lacking in many businesses – but part of what makes up a successful one – is simply ‘getting on‘. It’s that ability to be open and frank, especially when talking about each other’s creative ideas. It may sound trivial, but bonding processes such as this email below should not be clamped down on by HR departments. Ours didn’t, and everyone’s a bit better for it too. Except for ‘sore toe man’, who’s still on morphine. Bless.

I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes here but maybe [man 3 is] right.

O Hello, even HR are joining in now, good job I’m thick skinned, (obviously the skin on my toe is thinner before you all jump on that one and not jump on my toe either.)

We should probably all take a step back now. How would you like it if the shoe was on the other foot?

You are so bitter, just give yourself a little time to heal.

You can keep your size twelves out of it!

‘PR person’ best one so far – and they call themselves creative upstairs?

Think I might hop along myself, (flip) flop down on the riverbank and watch as the day escalates into a ripper of a good time. Bloody marvelous.

Sent: 13 July 2010 12:48
It looks that way, sore toe man. I wouldn’t stand for it. Maybe you should go toe to toe with each of them.

Sent: 13 July 2010 12:30 (By sore foot man)
I see your all having a go now.

Sorry, did ‘account guy’ put his foot in it?

Sent: 13 Jul 2010, at 12:23 (by sore foot man)
Is that it?

Sent: 13 July 2010 12:22 (By ‘account guy’)
Sounds like things are escalating.

Mind the ‘toe ropes’

Yeah me too, will be limping from pub to pub.

Sent: 13 July 2010 12:15
Me too! If you need me I’ll be at the Pimms tent….

For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s the biannual Bedford River Festival this coming weekend.

There’s loads on across the two days, and it’s all run along the embankment, which is the bit between the Town Bridge and the Cinema end.

The Bedford Rowing Club balcony by the Town Bridge is open for drinks to the public all weekend too! Without being biased – it’s nicest spot in town for a beer overlooking the river.

Anyway, here’s what’s on here’s what’s on if you’re about.
