I really enjoy it when advertising crosses the boundry of visual and audiable poetry.

This Ad from the talented minds over at DDB is a couple of years old now, but still makes me smile.

It taps into the poetic and creative mindset, found widely in VW’s middle-class demographic. Which, even if you haven’t done a ‘night-drive’ like me, inspires you to have a try.

Directed by Noam Murro of Biscuit Filmworks and with cinematography by the ‘Collateral’ director of photography, Paul Cameron, the 90-second spot features a Golf being driven around the deserted, late night Los Angeles streets. The narrative is Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas and narrated by Richard Burton. It’s been wonderfully written, and makes a change from copywriting in it’s more usual form. DT had a way of painting with words. But then, you’d expect nothing less of an ad from VW.

And incase you’ve not had enough of this post yet, I came across this hugely entertaining old trailer for “Under Milkwood” whilst searching out the narrative.
